Justification |
1 |
The Emmbrook Secondary School is
not the worst performing secondary school in the district |
The council is keen to point out
its success at being the second rated educational authority in the UK. It is
keen to do even better. It would seem reasonable one of the quickest and
cost effective way to achieve this would be to close the worst performing
secondary school in the Wokingham area.
The information here clearly shows which school is the worst performing
school. The data can be sorted 3 ways: GCSE results, Value added and A/AS
result One Wokingham school is consistently bottom for all three criteria |
2 |
The Emmbrook Secondary school is
not the oldest secondary school in the district |
The council uses the escalating
costs of secondary school maintenance as one of justifications for the
vision. Emmbrook secondary is not the oldest secondary school compared
to neighbouring secondary school. It is likely that the
maintenance overhead for Emmbrook is not the highest of the secondary
schools in Wokingham We have requested documents from the council under
the freedom of information act 2000. It is hoped that these documents will
reveal the true maintenance requirements of each secondary school in
Wokingham |
3 |
One stop package of schools |
Emmbrook provides a unique one
stop location for education from nursery through to 6th form. Allowing
parents to choose a location where pupils can easily walk to school without
the need to use a car of public transport |
4 |
Effect on the Emmbrook primary
schools |
Parents choose the Emmbrook
schools as a package. If there is uncertainty about the future of the
secondary school there is likely to be an effect on the intake at the infant
and junior schools. Primary school funding is very closely linked to
headcount. If the headcount suffers the budget will reduce |
5 |
People moving into the area |
People who have moved into the
Emmbrook area have done so knowing that it provides a package of primary and
secondary schools locally. In contrast people moving into areas of
Finchampstead and Barkham have done so explicitly knowing that the area has
no secondary schools. This is either because they actively wish to live in
an area or on balance have looked at everything else the areas have to offer
and have decided to sacrifice a local secondary school |
